An important aspect of this rebrand was finding the balance between respecting the original voice of Thrasher and the skate community while elevating editorial content. An analog micro and typeset macro logo system was developed to cover both the grittiness and technical artistry of skateboarding.
Two Systems One Entity
01. Macro Logo
Conveying the energy and motion of skate culture. The macro logo serves to elevate and refine the current voice of Thrasher Magazine. The logotype acts to provide a foundation for louder moments.
02. Micro Logo
An analog system to convey the gritty, raw voice of Thrasher. The hand drawn moments reinforce a human quality. As a balance to the Macro logo it has an expressive usage. Shown on the issue covers, it is a dynamic system which can be expanded.
Magazine Launch
Collateral and environmental design for the magazine launch were expanded from the Macro typeset system and Micro analog system.
Web + Social
The site was a simplified browsing experience that allowed for footage and photography to narrate and inform. Expressive moments that connect with the rawness of the skate community.
